I get asked all the time about my relationship with food.  At my last Naturi Beauty Brand promotional photo shoot, my photographer wrapped it up by exclaiming, “ I just watched you molest food for an hour!” and my makeup artist followed up with, “I feel like I peeped in on something that I shouldn’t have!” LOL.  All in jokes and love of course, but nonetheless leading me to today’s post.

What is food? And why do we love it so much?  Is food merely the colorful, tasty tangible edibles that we eat?  Is it merely there to fill our bellies when it rumbles? Why do we crave it, worship it, lust after it and do the Happy Food Dance once it’s served?

Naturi Beauty has several theories…allow me ;)

  • Food is Vibrational!  Whadyamean vibrational? As in energy! Yes, Food is Mood. Well think about it, not only is it necessary for our survival and day-to-day functioning but it influences our behavior as well. Food vibration can be seen in  the activity of children after a Halloween party, the effects of chocolate during your monthly WombMoon Cycle and the Itis experienced after Thanksgiving. Nuff said.

  • Food is Relational! The same way we have relationships with people | things | places, we relate to our food in the most delicious destructive of ways. People say to me all the time, “I don’t have time to shop and prep, by the time I get home, I just want it ready, already.”   Eating is definitely influenced by cultural norms, in some places it’s normal to bond with food via the prep process, such as picking, shucking and roasting fresh corn, whereas in others, they simply open a can and heat. I would dare to say that when one approaches the food with a honoring and connection that places it’s nourishing value before time and convenience, they experience a sense of fulfillment rather than being full.
  • Food is Yummmm!  Uh duh!!! Of course it is. All of us, can reflect back on that bomb dish that we had at that restaurant. Or that one holiday when Grandma made that meal. Or that time when you harnessed your own culinary genius and put your foot in every single pot you own, only to have your guests banging down your door for more.  Yep, yumminess is key.  The best part? We can increase the yummm factor beyond taste. Once we begin to relate to food with an energetic respect for what it does to our bodies, minds and souls (yet alone our tastebuds) then we’ll understand the balance.

So tell me, does food serve you or do you serve food?
